Today features Nicole Tetterton
About your writing;
When did you start writing?
When I was probably about 10
What inspires you to write?
Mostly music, I can have these thoughts in my head, but music helps me space out reality until I can fall into the story.
How has writing change you as a person?
It makes me calmer, if I go too long without writing I became a little snippy and mean
Adding some fun;
If you spend the rest of your life in a novel or novel series, what novel would it be and why?
How to Kill a Rock Star, by the wonderful Tiffanie DeBartolo… Because I love Paul’s character and although Eliza upset me she did it for the right reasons… and for the ending… I won’t spoil it for anyone but if you read it you would understand.
Share a couple of your favorite things and or things you like?
Music, I love, love, love, music it’s my second passion.
What couldn’t you live without?
In the literacy world who do you think is a misunderstood character and why?
Draco, yes I’m referencing Harry Potter, he’s just a confused kid who is trying to make his father proud. J
Have you read anything that made you think differently about writing?
God Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo… obviously I love her books. I don’t want to spoil the ending.
Is there a character that annoys you in the literacy world? Or even one of your own?
Although I liked her in the third book, Kiera from the Thoughtless series drove me crazy. I loved the books, but I wanted to smack her several times.
What do you look for in a publishing company as they will end up representing your work?
I have never thought about this… Hmm, I would want a company that would respect my view on my story. That’s the biggest factor.
How do you stay confident in yourself especially by putting yourself out there in the internet world?
I have a problem with believing in myself. It’s a bit of a flaw of mine. My husband is actually my rock when I start to doubt myself he is there telling me that I can do it and believing in me.
How do you handle rejection? What advice can you offer to moving past it?
I learned a long time ago that I won’t be able to please everyone. Some people will not like my writing and I just have to accept that. I’ve spent too much of my life worrying about pleasing others.
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
If you want to do it, do it. Don’t let others bring you down.
Featuring your work and or upcoming work;
Tell us about your book [s]
Yay!! I get excited to talk about Fated, because I love it so much.
Fated is about Sophie (MC) who has a failing business and then a falling out with her “fiancé” and because of it has to move in with her sister, Marsi. Sophie has never felt like she has fit in with her family and has always been jealous of the way that her parents approve of Marsi. She’s at a low point in her life and feels like she’s a failure and that nothing is going to get better.
Austin (Male MC) has problems of his own from his past, and has a tendency to sleep around, but what is strange for Austin is he believes in love and fated, he just hasn’t found the right person. He also is in a career that he was forced into from his dad and although he is extremely good at it he despises it.
Who is your favorite character and why? [If you can share without spoiling your work]
This is a hard one. I’m going to say Sophie, she’s sarcastic, but will tell you like it is. She’s also strong and smart.
What character do you hope readers understand?
Do you have a favorite part of your own book (s) ?
Mainly Sophie’s but Austin has a few chapters!
Choosing a character or even yourself, can you give us a sample playlist of music that would follow said person?
I’m going to say that most of my playlists that I construct for my books are going to have The Gaslight Anthem on there. I’ve also been known to put in some Rise Against, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Falling in Reverse, Silverstein, and Memphis May Fire (there are more but the list is too long to name). I’m a rock girl, with a sweet spot for amazing lyrics and guitar solos.
Have you had trouble writing about any of your characters?
Maybe the relationship of Joe and Sophie, but their relationship is supposed to be a façade so…
What would you like readers to get from your book (s) ?
Always follow your dreams and your heart, and that even when things are terrible they can always get better.
In your book (s) what had been the hardest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Honestly, writing “intimate” scenes… all I can think about is my step-mother reading them… **shivers**
How is this world a better place because of your books?
I think that the idea of following your dreams is kind of laughed at now. Some people are more worried about money, but you can have all the money in the world and still be miserable.
If you could meet any of your own characters, who would (they / it) be?
Austin, because I kind of have a “book crush” on him. J
If you had to write a scene for a character of your choice that would put them in an awkward situation how would it go?
What do you to for marketing?
Facebook and goodreads mostly. I have a twitter account but rarely use it.
Promote your books in a sentence or less 🙂
Fated: A story about the twists of life, following your dreams, and a little bit of rock and roll.
What are you working on now?
I have a few. I have one that I need to edit and retype (don’t ask, it involves a terrible mistake and many tears were shed) called Up For the Chase or Chasing R I haven’t decided yet.
The one I’m working on is called Surviving the Storm.
