Kristen Hope Mazzola is an up and coming independent author from sunny South Florida.  Crashing Back Down was her debut into the literary world. Kristen is currently working on the rest of her Crashing Series, which will include a sequel, Falling Back Together, and a prequel, Walking Away.  She even has a few more tricks up her sleeve, with more characters to introduce and more twists to unravel, so keep your eye on this talented young author!photo 4

When Kristen is not driving a pen into paper, she enjoys reading all different genres and fishing.  “There is just something so magical about water and the calm it brings to my life,” says Kristen.  Even though writing is not her only career she is pursuing, Kristen hopes to one day be a full time writer. Having a day job and a busy life, makes finding time for writing difficult, but anything worthwhile in life is difficult. Loving life, writing, and fishing basically make up her world.

Ky: Hello Kristen! It’s so awesome to interview you, how are you?

Kristen Hope Mazzola:         Wonderful! So glad to be going another interview with you!

Ky: In your book Crashing Back Down, if you had to choose one of your characters to hang out with for a day – who would it be?

Kristen Hope Mazzola:  It would have to be Mitch.  I love him! He’s pretty quiet in CBD but don’t worry he will have his time to shine in books to come.  He’s a fire fighter that just has everyone’s best interest at heart. He reminds me of a best guy friend I had in college.

Ky: I like that charm Walker has – had Walker always been the character you envisioned in your book?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: No, actually I thought he was going to be more of a gruff character, he really shaped himself to be honest and now I wouldn’t want him any different, he’s my ultimate book boyfriend for sure.

Ky: Do you think Mags should have done anything differently?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: Mags is Mags, she has a lot of flaws and has a lot of maturing to do.  But as far as doing anything different, I don’t think so.  She stayed true to herself and personality well.

Ky: Which character in your book do you think could benefit from some of your advice?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: Mags.  Hands down she needs to get her head on straight.

Ky: I like that Mags and Walker are friends first – I think it’s a small but uncommon occurrence in books now a days. How did you come to that decision?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: It was a very natural progression for me.  I started off writing the end of the book (with a different ending) and then worked my way to the beginning so they ended up falling into that wonderful rhythm.dream_walker

Ky: I admire your dedication to Crashing Back Down, what helped you continue writing it?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: I simply fell in love.  I am in love with every character that I have written about.  They have become a part of me.  Writing is one of the things that has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and I am so grateful for that happiness and fulfillment Crashing Back Down has brought to my life.

Ky: I’ve told you before but I love your cover! I think it’s so beautiful and has this haunting sadness to it. It makes me want to know the character. How did you come to choosing that cover? Can you explain your cover choosing process with us?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: It is really silly actually. This is my first book and in the beginning was too nervous to reach out to other authors to ask advice, so I had no idea how to pick a cover, find an artist, anything.  So while entering into a contest on another author’s page, I ended up liking Cover It! Designs page.  I started looking at her work and stumbled onto Ari’s premade covers and bam, it hit me! The cover for Crashing Back Down was staring at me and I just had to have it.  I bought it when the book was only half way done. I was just so scared that someone else would snag it if I didn’t act fast. For Falling Back Together I have an appointment with the same cover artist in December to start designing that cover that way most authors do, starting with brainstorming, finding pictures then manipulating them until the perfect cover emerges. I am really excited to experience that process!

Ky: Were you able to tackle all the story you wanted too in Crashing Back Down, or did you have to put something’s aside till a future book or time?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: I have a prequel in the works called Walking Away, it will be from Walker’s POV, the only thing I think is really miss is the back story, getting to know Walker and Randy, but for who they really are, not for who Mags sees them as.  I think that one will end up being my favorite in the series.  Also, there is a sequel entitled Falling Back Together.  I don’t want to say that Crashing Back Down ends in a cliff hanger, but I know that it needs closure and I don’t want to give anything away, but Falling Back Together does have a happy ending. It just might not be the one everyone is expecting.

Ky: To all the readers who have not read your work, can you share with us what your writing style is like?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: My writing style is first person past tense.  But that sounds boring, so here is a little excerpt from Crashing Back Down so you can get a feel for my writing and my book:

Walker opened the door for me, but stopped me right before I got into the seat, pulling me in and lifting my chin with his hand to make our eyes meet. His cheeks flushed with a hint of crimson as he bent down to kiss me softly. Right before our lips met, he drawled, “You’re amazing.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck without allowing our lips to part. He hugged me into him and lifted me into the passenger’s seat. Shifting the truck into gear, we started driving in the direction of Charlie’s. A sly grin spread on Walker’s sexy lips and he held one hand on the wheel and the other in mine, rubbing his thumb on my palm.

I looked over, taking in the amazing sight of Walker’s happiness. “So, Charlie’s, huh?”

He nodded very matter-of-factly. “Yup, thought it’d be the perfect place. It’s kinda like a cure-all for hunger, hangovers, reunions, fights, what have you.”

Ky: Who would be your dream cast for Crashing Back Down?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: Mags: Mila Kunis; Walker: Channing Tatum; Cali: Blake Lively; and Mitch: Ryan Reynolds! That would be amazing!!!

Ky: Which character would you choose to save you from a deserted Island?

Kristen Hope Mazzola: Mitch, he is a fireman after all.

Kristen Hope Mazzola:

Thank you so much Ky, for having me and being an amazing friend since the beginning of my literary journey! You truly are awesome!  And to my reads or to readers in general, thank you for just being you.  Your devotion to the written word is just as amazing and commendable as the authors’ of the books you read.  And please remember to tip your authors, leaving a review is the best thing in the world to us!
