Review: The Intern, Volume 1 by Brooke Cumberland

The Intern: Vol 1 by Brooke Cumberland

Yes. Yes to all of this book.

I bought The Intern a while back and eventually sat down to read it. The cover caught my interest. Brooke is also super awesome. I thought to myself as I flipped through the first half of the book in one sitting. “Why on earth didn’t I read this earlier?”

I’ve already bought Vol 2 and I’m certain I’ll buy the rest of the series.

As I continued to read I became very interested in the future of these characters. Ceci is very confident but, Brooke also touched on what makes her vulnerable without it crushing her. I loved that. Aside from being intelligent and determined, we also get to enjoy seeing her thrown into a world she knows nothing of.

That is where Bentley comes in. I grew to like him but at first I was hesitant. I kind of felt like there beneath what Brooke wrote something was hiding. While I continued reading, I came to realize something. I understood Bentley on certain things that were associated with his character. Our personalities are very different but I still related to aspects of his life. One being: forced into something, or doing it to make others happy comes with a cost. Whether or not, we made the choice…

A part of me sees Bentley aching for freedom. It could be because I myself, in my own life seek the same thing. Obviously I can’t say what Brooke has hidden in Bentley but, I do enjoy his character. I truly am looking forward to seeing where his road takes him.

I do believe other people might be able to relate to that as well. Our reasons and stories are different but sometimes we get chained down into something. There’s a struggle within that and many options that follow. I think that’s why Ceci becomes a bit of fresh air to myself as a reader. (she’s a fantastically written character too) I feel as if she represents a sort of freedom. (which is ironic when you get to know her story)

These two characters are full with realities that help the story; Brooke has created a very wonderful book and made it possible to connect even with the simplest things.

The writing was clean, professional and was sprinkled with some sexy & mystery too. Go on and check this series out! Don’t forget share your thoughts!

She’s sexy, fierce, and a loud-mouthed know-it-all…and she’s completely off limits. Cecilia isn’t your typical college student. Hell, she isn’t a college student at all, but that doesn’t stop her from applying for one of the biggest and prestigious enterprises in the Midwest. She wants it. She takes it. She doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to finding out the truth.

When Bentley Leighton, soon-to-be CEO of Leighton Enterprises, meets “Ceci,” he’s instantly impressed. He doesn’t have time to train a new intern. However, when he sees her that first day, his intentions begin to change.

He’s the boss. She’s the intern. Nothing can happen. It’s against the company rules. Then again, some rules were made to be broken.

What starts as innocent flirting becomes raveled up into so much more—secrets, lies, deceit.

*The Intern is a three-part romantic suspense serial.*
Not suitable for readers under 18.

P.S: Brooke also helped me learn something about my writing and for that I’m very grateful. Reading her book showed me what I lacked in my own writing and why I wasn’t happy with my works. So thank you Brooke! =)
